Thieves Cut Cable in Mexico and Knock Out Acuna Long Distance Phone Service
May 28, 2008
By Joe Hyde
Special to LIVE!Associated Press is running a story that approximately 50,000 people in Ciudad Acuña were without long distance telephone service because thieves had cut and removed a fiber optic cable between Acuña and Piedras Negras.
Speculation is that the thieves thought the cable was comprised of copper, a valuable commodity to sell on the black market.
Alas, it was only fiber optics, and it is virtually worthless when cut. More info here.
